S-7 is the daily shampoo we developed in our San Francisco salon for people who wash almost every day — seven times a week. This bottle holds the same formula as the Standard Size, not a thinner sample version. At 100 mL, it's the largest bottle you can carry through airport security.

Built for hair that gets washed every day
Most shampoos are designed around two or three washes a week. San Francisco doesn't work that way — morning fog, dry afternoons, the commute, the studio. If you wash daily, the question isn't how strongly a shampoo cleans. It's what's left behind after the seventh wash of the week.
S-7 uses a sulfate-free cleansing system built on cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine and coco-glucoside, chosen after repeated reformulation on real salon guests rather than on a spec sheet. It lathers properly, rinses clean, and leaves hair soft enough to comb through without effort.

MATSUYAMA
Our house scent: Japanese yuzu over hinoki cypress. Citrus at the top, quiet cedar-like wood underneath. It's built to read as clean rather than perfumed, and it stays in the hair rather than following you around all day.

What's in it, and why

• Sulfate-free. No SLS or SLES. Gentle enough for color-treated and chemically straightened hair.
• Formulated without cocamidopropyl betaine. A common secondary surfactant that some sensitive scalps react to. Our reasons for leaving it out are on the main S-7 page.
• Sodium Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Silk Protein. Slip and an even feel through the mid-lengths.
• Sodium Lactate. A humectant that helps hair hold moisture through repeated washing.
• Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride + Polyquaternium-7. Conditioning agents that make wet detangling easier, especially on fine hair.
• pH adjusted with citric acid. Leaves the cuticle settled after rinsing.

Who this size is for

• You wash daily and travel often. 100 mL clears TSA carry-on limits.
• You want to try S-7 properly — a full week or two of real washes — before committing to the Standard Size.
• You want a second bottle somewhere other than your own shower.

How to use
Apply to wet hair, massage into a lather, and rinse thoroughly. Follow with a rinse-out conditioner if you use one. Then work No.115 or No.215 through towel-dried hair, from root to ends, and dry.

A note on your shower floor
S-7 can leave a slippery film on shower floors and tubs. Clean the floor with soap after use — rinsing with water alone won't remove it, and the film becomes slippery again the next time the floor gets wet.

Do you need a conditioner?
If your hair hasn't been color-treated, permed, or straightened, probably not — at least not a rinse-out one. Healthy, unprocessed hair usually has enough of its own cuticle intact that a rinse-out conditioner mostly adds weight.
What we'd suggest instead: after washing, towel-dry and work No.115 or No.215 through from root to ends, then dry. A leave-in does its work where it actually matters — while you're applying heat, and for the rest of the day after.
If your hair is chemically treated, very long, coarse or tightly curled, or simply feels tangled after rinsing, keep your rinse-out conditioner. This isn't a rule, it's a starting point. There's more on how we think about this on the S-7 page.
